Children's eye exams are recommended yearly starting at the age of 3 up until the age of 19 unless vision problems are noticed earlier.
Â
Yearly exams are important in this age group since often times kids will not know they are having a problem.  It is very common for one eye to develop an ocular issue but the child not even know it since the other eye is compensating.  The earlier an eye problem is detected with a child, the better the end result after treatment. Some common issues with children's eyes include:
Â
- Amblyopia
- Strabismus
- Refractive Error
Â
At Island Eyecare, children are completely covered for their eye exam once a year with a valid BC care card. Â

These diseases, if left untreated or undiagnosed, can lead to complications resulting in severe vision loss and blindness.
