Not all optometrists are licensed to write prescriptions for their patients.  At Island Eyecare, our optometrist can provide excellent pharmaceutical care for those eye conditions which require medical intervention.  From antibiotics to steroids, our scope of practice is quite wide and allows th optometrist to treat and manage the majority of ocular infections, inflammations, and allergies.

Several common eye symptoms may require some form of a prescription eye drop.  Some frequently seen symptoms include sudden onset of redness, pain, itching, light sensitivity or blurry vision.  It is always better to be safe rather than sorry and have any new issue with your eyes addressed immediately by an optometrist as it may require prescription medical treatment.  There are a vast number of eye conditions which can cause devistating vision loss if medical intervention is not taken immediately.
