Surgical Management

Island Eyecare provides patients with both preoperative and postoperative eye care for the entire scope of ocular surgeries. These include, but are not limited to, cataract surgery, LASIK/ PRK correction, retinal surgery, and glaucoma surgery.  By having the optometrist co-manage these types of surgeries with the ophthalmologist, it is convenient for the patient and saves uneccessary wait times.

At the preoperative visit, the optometrist addresses any questions or concerns that the patient may have regarding the surgery.  At Island Eyecare, we do an overview of the procedure and discuss what is involved.  We talk about several items including how the procedure is done, the risks and benefits of the operation, and the recovery time, thus putting your mind and nerves at ease and allowing you to understand what, why, and how the procedure is being performed.

For the majority of surgeries, it is necessary to be seen at specific time intervals afterwards.  Generally, the postoperative visits to your optometrist occur one day, one week, one month, three months, six months, and one year after the surgical date.  These time frames are important because they are critical points at which things can go astray.  With frequent follow up and proper management, surgeries can begin and end successfully.  For more information, please contact us at Island Eyecare in Victoria.
